“Lucky Dog” by Douglas E. Holt

The experiences of one member of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. You might say that Doug Holt has ridden on the wings of fate and survived during a most dangerously and pivotal time in our history. That he lived to describe these moments in his young life while many of his brothers died, helps to give all of them life through our deep appreciation. As you read his description of seeing others fall from the sky, and yet separate himself from the possibility that the same fate awaited him, you can sense the overwhelming feeling of disbelief of the reality of the moment. His memoirs can be multiplied by the many that served. His story is their story. We must never forget.

Doug Holt went on to a successful engineering career with The Heil Company, and the Harnischfeger Company. He was instrumental in assisting to usher in computerized technology to this dynamic industry. He was a trustee of the Alfred & Lois Kelch Charitable Trust and longtime friend of Al & Lois Kelch. He was a key partner in creating the Kelch Aviation Museum and an advocate for the restoration and preservation of antique aircraft.
