WE REACHED OUR FIRST PYLON!

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we’ve just passed the $15,000 mark and are well on our way to reaching our next pylon at $30,000!
In recognition of your contributions, we are pleased to share a brief feature on the Gee Bee Model R.
The Gee Bee (short for Granville Brothers) Model R was a series of American racing airplanes built in the early 1930s by Granville Brothers Aircraft. Known for their stubby fuselage, small wings, and oversized radial engine, these planes were designed purely for speed and air racing, not everyday flying.
First flown in 1932, the Gee Bee Model R set multiple speed records, including winning the prestigious Thompson Trophy in 1932 at an average speed of over 250 mph. However, its difficult handling and unforgiving flight characteristics made it dangerous; several crashes tarnished its reputation.
Despite its hazards, the Gee Bee became an icon of the Golden Age of Air Racing, symbolizing the daring and innovation of the era.
